How much space is needed for dumpster delivery?
Learn how to prepare the approach, placement surface and overhead clearance before a roll-off dumpster arrives.
A roll-off delivery truck needs a clear approach, adequate overhead clearance and a firm placement area. Preparing the location before delivery helps the driver position the container safely and reduces delays.
Provide a clear, usable approach
The truck must be able to enter, align with the placement area and leave after setting the container. Move vehicles, trailers, equipment and other obstacles before arrival. Tell WI Rentals in advance about narrow roads, tight turns, fences or gates.
Look above the delivery path
Low branches, utility lines, roof overhangs and other overhead obstructions can interfere with the truck and raised roll-off system. Walk the complete approach and placement area while looking both at ground level and overhead.
Choose a firm, level placement surface
The selected area must support the delivery vehicle, empty container and loaded container. Driveways may be suitable when they are accessible and structurally appropriate, but the property owner is responsible for approving placement. Soft ground, steep slopes and recently saturated areas may create problems.
Delivery-day checklist
- Move vehicles away from the approach and placement area
- Unlock gates and confirm the opening is adequate
- Remove equipment, materials and low temporary obstacles
- Identify septic systems, underground concerns or sensitive surfaces
- Make sure the contact person can be reached
Share unusual site conditions before scheduling
Photos and a clear description can help when a property has limited access. Tell us about unpaved roads, culverts, sharp turns, low branches, overhead lines or a placement area near a structure. We will review the information and discuss a practical plan.
Plan for pickup too
The access route must remain clear throughout the rental. Do not park in front of the container or stack material around it. Keep debris at or below the container’s allowable fill level so it can be transported safely.
